I cooked dried pintos beans this week. I am not as ashamed as I should be to say that I felt like I was on Little House on the Prairie. Typically, I would open a can, but I went all out and put water and dried beans in a slow cooker. I'm claiming "from scratch" on this one. What I didn't realize was the quantity. We have two plus a child that eats like a baby bird. We didn't need forty gallons. I did freeze some and then made chili. I realize that it is hot outside. A missionary at GA camp once told me that they drink hot tea in hot climates to stay cool. She also made us drink hot tea from a cup made of notebook paper. I don't think they actually did that in the country in which she served; if they had notebook paper, I suspect they had cups. You have to put on a show for 10 year olds, I suppose. Anyway, the dried beans were good, but took a little scrubbing to remove from the baby girl's hair.
